There is beauty in the everyday. To some, it is just a piece of produce, but you, like me, probably notice the beauty of the purple streaks in the artichoke and how they contrast with the green. I appreciate fresh produce. (and delicate birds, and honeybees, trees and flowers of all kinds, and every fuzzy baby critter that ever existed), I also love the rich, buttery texture of oil paints, and this artichoke is the first painting in my new oil Produce series. I hope you will stay tuned :)
It is a 6x6" painting on flat (1/8") hardboard, is done with loose, painterly brushstrokes, and has light brushwork texture. It is varnished and arrives unframed.

Fun facts about artichokes - They are actually flower buds, are high in antioxidants and b9(folate) and they help to cleanse the liver. When they bloom, they are large, fuzzy, and pink, purple or deep, bright blue.
